Veterinary Assistant

About the Role
Vista Pet Hospital is a fast-paced, three-doctor practice committed to providing exceptional care for pets and their families. We are seeking a friendly, motivated, and driven Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team. If you love animals and excel at patient care, we’d love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities:
Venipuncture – jugular, cephalic, and saphenous.
Catheter placement.
Restraint of patients for diagnostic procedures (i.e. ultrasonography, radiology), sample collection, medical and surgical procedures. Restraint of fractious and anxious patients in a safe and humane manner using fear free techniques when possible.
Responsible for patient comfort in a safe and hygienic environment during treatment and hospitalization, including cleaning kennels, laundry, and other areas of the facility, coming into contact with urine, feces, and other patient bodily fluids.
Ensure treatment rooms, kennels, surgical and dental suites, exam rooms, and any other areas of the hospital are kept clean and tidy. Ensure supplies are restocked, laundry is maintained, and order is unpacked.
Properly fill prescriptions maintaining materials and equipment; keep the area properly stocked and prepared.
Knowledge of all common vaccines and vaccination protocols and ability to explain to clients.
Legibly keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
Admit, room, and discharge patients based on the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring that patients are in a medically appropriate state. Explain the necessary follow up and homecare instructions following hospital policy.
Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies.
Maintain accurate and organized client and patient records using eVet/Pulse.
Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure seamless client and patient experiences.
Provide compassionate support to clients during difficult situations.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a veterinary hospital required.
Basic knowledge of drug calculations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to anticipate patient/DVM needs.
Proficient with computers and office equipment; experience with eVet/Pulse is a plus.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Self-direction/motivation. Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team.
Passion for animals and empathy for their owners.
